The St. Louis Modern Quilt Guild held its 5th biannual quilt show March 14–15, 2026, at the Greensfelder Recreation Complex within Queeny Park. The two-day event was a vibrant, community-centered celebration of modern textile art that brought together quilters, artists, vendors, and enthusiasts from across the region.

On a personal note, I accepted a personal challenge to enter three of my quilts. I was thrilled to have all three accepted, and even more thrilled to win 2nd-place ribbons for two of my quilts! Seeing my work recognized among such talent boosted my confidence and made me feel truly accomplished. It was inspiring to witness what a creative mind, a great idea, some fabric, and skilled hands can produce.

During the two-day event, visitors were greeted with a large and diverse collection of nearly 300 quilts, showcasing bold colors, striking geometric patterns, and inventive techniques. Many pieces reflected minimalism, asymmetry, and improvisational piecing—hallmarks of modern quilting-highlighting how tradition continues to inspire new artistic directions and a thriving future for quilting. From Applique to Modernism, every style and form of quilting was well represented.

Beyond the visual display, the event fostered an interactive and educational atmosphere. Attendees had the opportunity to watch live demonstrations in which experienced quilters shared techniques ranging from precision piecing to creative fabric manipulation. These sessions offered valuable insight for beginners and seasoned quilters alike, making the event not just a showcase but also a learning experience. The guild’s commitment to education and accessibility was evident in how approachable and engaging these demonstrations were.

I was inspired by what I saw, the people I met, and the seminars I attended. An unexpected joy from the event came from visitors who studied my quilt and wanted to learn more. I deeply enjoyed answering questions about my quilts and the techniques I used, and taking a chance by entering my quilts. Not only did they inspire me, but I also enjoyed encouraging and inspiring them!

It’s always a huge pleasure to be immersed in the quilting community and experience, and I left with new ideas, more inspiration, and a renewed spirit. Let’s see what I can create in the next 2 years!
